New publication in Early China: Cheng Hao’s 程浩 Gu jian xin yi 古簡新義 (2026, Zhongxi shujian)

Gu jian xin yi 古簡新義 collects studies on the Tsinghua manuscripts, in four sections. The first, “Interpretations of Graphs,” is dedicated to discussing graphs whose interpretation is still challenging. The second section, “Collation and Interpretation,” offers new perspectives on questions of transcription and interpretation of several Tsinghua manuscripts whose initial sequencing continued to be object of study. In section three, “Textual Analysis,” Cheng Hao focuses on textual studies, discussing the nature and relevance of the “Writings-like documents” (shu lei 書類文獻), the *Milfoil Divination Rules 筮法, and other Tsinghua manuscripts. In the final section, “Further Studies,” the author moves to the importance of this new manuscript evidence to the study of ancient transmitted text.
